What Is Yoga Psychology ?
Yoga, as commonly practiced today, is largely derived from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, focusing on physical aspects like Asanas, Pranayama, Kriyas, and Bandhas. While these influence the mind, they do so indirectly through the body (somato-psychic effect).
In contrast, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali present a deeper understanding of the mind—its nature, causes of distress, and ways to manage it—offering a direct psycho-somatic approach that is often overlooked or misunderstood.
